Jacob hit the IL on July 22 with right elbow inflammation but the good news is he will not require surgery, although Padres skipper Bob Melvin said his absence could still be an extended one. Nonetheless, Jacob has been flat-out dominant in his ascent to the big leagues, tossing a 1.82 ERA in his minor-league career before firing three scoreless frames for the Padres this season.
